Following a disappointing performance in the Test series against New Zealand, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly restricted cricketers’ families from accompanying them on tours, aiming to boost focus and performance.
The decision emerged after consecutive losses, including a 0-3 defeat to New Zealand at home and a 1-3 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia.
The decision was made by BCCI officials, head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and captain Rohit Sharma.
The reinstated rule, initially removed during the COVID-19 pandemic, bars cricketers’ wives and families from travelling on tours. Board officials argue that family presence can distract players, especially on international tours.
Under the new rule, family members may join for two weeks if a tournament exceeds 45 days. For shorter tours, the limit is one week.
Additionally, the report added that the cricket authority has mandated that all players travel together on the team bus to promote unity, regardless of a player’s stature.
