On Friday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) approved the bail applications of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Asad Umar, effectively saving them from arrest in the May 9 riots case.
Both Qureshi and Umar, wary of possible detention, had turned to the high court to seek bail. Their pleas were accepted, and the court issued an order prohibiting their arrest by the police.
Moreover, the court has asked the police to furnish case-related documents by July 10.
The court further instructed the ex-ministers to deposit surety bonds amounting to Rs100,000 each.
In a related development on Thursday, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) granted one-day transit bail to Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Asad Umar for alleged violations of section 144 and involvement in attacks on Islamabad police.
