ISLAMABAD: Asim Tariq Shaheed was laid to rest with full military honours on Tuesday after embracing martyrdom while rescuing a woman in distress, Inter Services Public Relations said.
ISPR said funeral prayers for Group Captain Asim Tariq Shaheed were offered in the presence of senior officers, airmen and members of the civil community.
Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, attended the funeral prayers and paid tribute to the Pakistan Air Force officer.
The Air Chief said the officer’s sacrifice reflected the finest traditions of the Pakistan Air Force and the Armed Forces of Pakistan, according to the ISPR statement.
He said Group Captain Asim Tariq laid down his life while protecting an innocent citizen and upheld the lives, dignity and honour of fellow Pakistanis.
The officer intervened during an armed assault and abduction attempt near Shaheen Chowk on Ninth Avenue in Islamabad.
Islamabad Inspector General of Police Ali Nasir Rizvi said the suspect, Saad Abbasi, was arrested within nine hours after police reviewed Safe City footage and used digital forensics.

11 specialised police teams worked on the case and examined footage from more than 300 CCTV cameras.
Police produced the suspect before an Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad, which sent him to Adiala Jail on a 14-day judicial remand for an identification parade.
The federal cabinet also offered Fateha for Group Captain Asim Tariq Shaheed on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities to conduct a complete and transparent investigation.
