A Pakistan Air Force officer was shot dead on Islamabad’s Ninth Avenue after he intervened to protect a woman from an alleged abduction attempt, police and initial reports said.
Police identified the victim as Group Captain Asim. According to police, he said he stopped near a motorcycle after seeing a man allegedly pulling a woman during an altercation.
The woman ran toward the other side of Group Captain Asim’s vehicle, according to initial accounts shared with investigators.
Islamabad Police said the suspect, identified as Saad, allegedly exchanged heated words with the officer before opening fire. Group Captain Asim suffered critical injuries and later embraced martyrdom.
Police said the suspect fled after the shooting. Law enforcement agencies have started operations to arrest him.
The woman told investigators that Saad was her colleague and had offered her a ride. She said he allegedly tried to take her to a different location instead of the agreed route.
According to police, the woman resisted, and the altercation followed. She told investigators that Group Captain Asim intervened in time and helped save her.
Group Captain Asim is survived by his widow, a daughter and a son.
