Army Chief meets UK Home Sec

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif earlier yesterday held a prolonged meeting with the British Home Secretary, Theresa May.

According to DG ISPR, Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa, the COAS asked the United Kingdom (UK) to play its role in checking international financing and communication of terrorists.

Earlier, terming Kashmir issue an unfinished agenda, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif said the world community must do more in resolving the longstanding Kashmir issue if it wants genuine peace in the region.

He was speaking at Royal United Services Institute, London – an independent think tank on defence and security.

During his address, the general said, Indian intransigence, violations of Line of Control (LOC) and indirect strategy against Pakistan is negatively affecting the region.

He said, dispute between Pakistan and India resides in the Kashmir issue, DG ISPR, Lt. Gen. Asim Saleem Bajwa tweeted.

About Afghanistan, he said, Pakistan will continue to support all efforts for enduring and permanent peace in Afghanistan and warned against detractors and spoilers of these efforts. “While, we continue to support enduring and permanent peace in Afghanistan. Let us all beware of detractors and spoilers,” he added.

General Raheel Sharif said, reconciliation is the only way forward in Afghanistan and everyone should support it.

The COAS further said, “We have brotherly relations and blood ties with people of Afghanistan,” adding, border management and greater international cooperation is a must for the regional peace.

He, however, said, the anti Pakistan propaganda must come to an end. Commenting on Pakistan’s security environment, he said, it is now becoming conducive for upward economic trajectory, adding, “our efforts will continue towards bringing total security
