General Qamar Javed Bajwa will retire today (Tuesday) after serving six years (2016 to 2022) as Chief of the Army Staff (COAS).
Last week, Gen Asim Munir was appointed COAS Bajwa’s successor and will become the 17th COAS. Incoming Gen Asim Munir will receive the “baton of command” from the outgoing COAS in a ceremony.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), former military chiefs will also participate in the ceremony, which will be conducted at the Pakistan Army’s General Headquarters (GHQ) at 9 a.m. today.
Gen Bajwa contacted President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to formally bid farewell as army head, with both government leaders expressing gratitude for Gen Bajwa’s service.
