Anthropic has published its 2026 Public Benefit Report, outlining five goals to develop safer artificial intelligence and ensure its benefits reach more people.
The Claude developer says its charter commits it to developing advanced AI responsibly for humanity’s long-term benefit. Anthropic operates as a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC).
This structure requires the company to balance shareholders’ financial interests with benefits to the wider public. Its report examines the company’s work across five areas, from technical safety research to economic opportunity.
The first goal focuses on preventing severe and irreversible harm from powerful AI systems. Anthropic identifies alignment, oversight, interpretability and safeguards against misuse among its research priorities.
A second priority calls for AI developers to follow safety practices supported by industry standards and enforceable laws. Anthropic also wants AI to strengthen democracy and global stability.
Its work in this area covers election integrity, national security, government partnerships and limits on AI use. Economic prosperity forms the fourth goal.
