ISLAMABAD: Pakistani security sources said on Friday that the army had destroyed several Afghan Taliban posts after cross-border firing near Angoor Adda in South Waziristan on Tuesday.
The reported strikes targeted positions near South Waziristan and Parachinar, according to state-run Radio Pakistan. Security sources claimed Pakistani troops used heavy weapons and forced Afghan personnel to abandon their positions.
They also reported several Afghan Taliban deaths but gave no confirmed casualty figure. Pakistani officials said Tuesday’s firing targeted military posts and residential areas in Angoor Adda, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
One civilian died, while five members of a family suffered injuries, according to Pakistani authorities. Officials accused Afghan forces of using sniper rifles, small arms and heavy weapons from positions across the border.
Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defence disputed Pakistan’s account and accused Pakistani forces of initiating the confrontation.
