A stabbing attack near Dam Square in central Amsterdam left four people injured on Thursday, according to Dutch police. Authorities have arrested one suspect, though the motive behind the assault remains under investigation.

The incident occurred on a nearby street, triggering an immediate police and medical response. Emergency services cordoned off the area as multiple ambulances and a trauma helicopter arrived to treat the victims. Dam Square, a major tourist destination, reopened approximately two hours after the attack.

Initial reports indicated five injured individuals, but police later confirmed the suspect was among the wounded. “With assistance from a civilian, we overpowered the suspect,” police stated in a social media update. “Due to a leg injury, we transported him to a hospital.”

Authorities have not released information about the victims’ conditions or the suspect’s identity. ANP, a Dutch news agency, published images showing emergency workers wheeling a person into an ambulance on a stretcher.
