MUZAFFARABAD: Polling for contested AJK reserved seats will be held Monday, Aug. 24, from 10 am to 1 pm in the Legislative Assembly Hall, the Election Commission said Sunday.
The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has eight reserved seats in the categories detailed by the commission: five for women, one for Ulema and Mashaikh, one for technocrats and professionals, and one for overseas Kashmiris.
Seven candidates initially filed nomination papers for the five women’s reserved seats. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Shaheen Kausar Dar later withdrew her nomination.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidates Rifat Abid, Maryam Idrees, Maryam Zaman and Sehrish Qamar remain in the women’s contest alongside PPP candidate Zobia Khursheed.

Hafiz Tariq Mahmood and Muhammad Mazhar Saeed are contesting the reserved seat for Ulema and Mashaikh. Iftikhar Gilani and Sahibzada Zulfiqar are competing for the technocrats and professionals seat.
The Election Commission said only one nomination was approved for the overseas Kashmiris’ reserved seat, which has therefore already been filled unopposed.
