OpenAI launched its Dots AI sidekicks on Tuesday, while Meta had recently introduced Jolly as the mascot for its Muse agent. Both companies are presenting task-performing assistants with friendly characters.
Dots are designed to run tasks in the background, Yahoo Tech reported. Meta plans to pair Jolly with Charm, a Tamagotchi-style wearable, later this year.
AI agents can perform tasks such as checking email, organising calendars and researching purchases. However, some assistants may need broad access to personal accounts and data to do so.
Yahoo Tech’s analysis argued that cute, customizable characters could make users more comfortable with the technology and more attached to its services.
However, no specific details are available on how mascots change how users share data and push comes as chatbot use remains uneven.
