Four more suspects allegedly having links with gangsters in Lyari were shot dead in two separate ‘encounters’ yesterday according to police sources.
The officials stated that two suspects were killed in Jodia Bazaar in an early morning shootout on Preetam Street where the police had come under attack at around 7am. In the exchange of fire, two suspects, later identified as Abdul Rehman, alias Babul, and Nadeem, alias Lamba, were killed while their two accomplices fled. Kharadar SHO Zafar Iqbal said the suspects belonged to the Shiraz Comrade gang and were allegedly involved in extortion, murder and kidnapping for ransom.
In the other encounter carried out by the Anti-Violent Crime Cell, two suspects were shot dead in the Garden area.
According to AVCC SSP Nasir Aftab, police received information that two suspected bank robbers would cross the Lyari Expressway on a motorcycle. When the police party signalled them to stop, they opened fire on the police, who returned fire wounding both. They were taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where doctors declared them dead. The deceased were identified as Syed Nazimuddin and Mohammed Ali alias Babu.
The SSP said that the suspects were wanted in armed bank robberies, murder and short-term kidnapping for ransom cases. He added that they had allegedly killed a police sub-inspector recently in the Garden area during a robbery attempt at a travel agency.
