SEOUL, South Korea: BTS will make no 2027 Grammy submissions, saying music should be heard without being divided by region or language.

All seven members shared the same statement through their Instagram Stories on Wednesday, July 29, The Korea Times reported.

The statement appeared on the accounts of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jung Kook. The K-pop group also thanked its ARMY fanbase and supporters worldwide.

BTS did not explicitly name a Grammy category in the statement. However, the announcement followed the Recording Academy’s introduction of Best Asian Pop Music Performance in June.

"We’ve decided not to submit our work for this year’s Grammy Awards. We hope music will be recognized and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language. Thank you, as always, to ARMY… pic.twitter.com/1rv60hlT3k

The Recording Academy said the category would recognise K-pop, J-pop, C-pop and other Asian-market performances featuring “meaningful use” of at least one Asian language.

That definition contradicts the source’s claim that eligible songs must be performed entirely in an Asian language. The academy also did not state that English-language songs by Asian artists would become ineligible for other Grammy categories.

The decision removes BTS’s album “ARIRANG” and its songs from consideration unless an eligible third party submits them under the academy’s rules. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 after its March release, according to The Korea Times.

BTS has received five Grammy nominations but has not won an award. Its nominations included three consecutive appearances in Best Pop Duo/Group Performance from 2021 to 2023.

The 69th Grammy Awards will take place on February 7, 2027, with broadcasts scheduled on ABC, Disney+ and Hulu.
