ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Asif Ali Zardari approved a 100-day prison remission for eligible inmates on August 14. The relief marks Independence Day and Eid Milad-un-Nabi.
The President’s Media Wing said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had forwarded the approval summaries. Zardari also approved military awards for 1,172 members of the Armed Forces and Civil Armed Forces.
The honours recognise their services, according to the presidential statement. Another summary authorised national civil awards for citizens from various professional fields.
The president also summoned both houses of Parliament for August 17. The Senate will meet at 4 p.m. and the National Assembly at 5 p.m.

Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee scheduled Eid Milad-un-Nabi for August 26. The date corresponds with 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 AH.
