Polling for Local Government elections in the districts of Sanghar and Badin in the interior of Sindh province is currrently underway today (Saturday).
Polling began at 7:30AM and will continue till 5:30PM without any interval.
Polling is being held for 71 Union Councils, 3 municipal committee and 11 town committees in Sanghar while people will exercise their right to vote for 4 Union Councils, 4 District Councils and one Town committee in Badin.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali on Friday ordered extraordinary security measures for LG polls in Badin and Sanghar.
Jamali also urged relevant officers to ensure implementation of Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) code of conduct for the polls.
The IGP ordered police patrolling and snap checking around the polling stations.
Over 7,280 personnel are deployed in District Sanghar along with 100 police mobiles and eight armored personnel carriers. The 3,000 police personnel and officers will perform their duties in district Badin along with 30 police pickup vans and four APCs.
Over 30 polling stations have been declared very sensitive in both districts.
