The Supreme Court of Pakistan in the Panamagate case hearing on Friday postponed hearing till first week of January 2017.
In today’s hearing the Supreme court declared that instead of a judicial commission, the top court would continue the panamagate proceedings
According to details, the Chief Justice of Pakistan said, during a hearing pertaining to the case on Friday, that he was retiring on Dec. 31 of this year, hence he would not participate in any hearing after the full court reference. PTI’s attorney Naemm Bukhari said that if a judicial commission was formed by the Supreme Court, the party would boycott it.
“We have made our case, the court should give its verdict on it,” said Naeem Bukhari. “If we are not able to make a good case, then the decision should be given according to law,” he added. He further stated that the decision of the judiciary would be a historic one.
“The court will continue hearing the Panamagate case,” said Justice Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali before he adjourned the case until the first week of January.
“PTI has complete faith in the Supreme Court,” said Chairman PTI Imran Khan in the case hearing.
Giving his point of view on the judicial commission, PTI’s Secretary General Jahangir Tareen said, “There is no need to form a commission now when the court can give a verdict in the case on the basis of evidence provided.”
The decision came a day after Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Awami Muslim League (AML) rejected a judicial commission proposed by the top court for probing the high-profile scandal.
Earlier this week, the apex court had sought suggestions from PTI as petitioners and the Sharif family as defendants of the case.
