Zia Mohyeddin, a legendary figure during his lifetime, passed away at the age of 91.
Earlier, NAPA sources reported that Mohyedin was transported to the hospital’s intensive care unit. Mohyedin was the Emeritus Dean of the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) in Karachi.
The late Anglo-Pakistani coached hundreds of students. He was renowned for his talent in reception, radio, poetry and prose readings, acting, and drama. Mohyeddin was born in Faisalabad on June 20, 1931, and graduated from Government College in Lahore. After studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, he returned to Pakistan and produced, directed, and acted in several plays. In 1962, he had an influential role in David Lean’s Lawrence of Arabia, followed in 1964 by Fred Zinneman’s Look at the Pale Horse. 1992’s Horses was followed by Immaculate Conception, directed by Jamil Dravid.
Although the late actor was best recognized for his considerable work on British television, his major role in the 1970 Lollywood film Mujrim Kaun was eventually unsuccessful despite having a good script and score. However, 1970 marked his arrival in Pakistan when he hosted the now-legendary Zia Mohyeddin Show on PTV. Later, he took the deanship of PIA Art Academy. Zia Mohyeddin established the National Academy of the Performing Arts (NAPA) in Karachi in 2005.
He won the Hilal-i-Imtiaz Art Award (Performance/Comparison) in 2012. Additionally, he is the author of three books, including Carrot is Carrot, Drama, and My Idol of Memories and Reflections.
Funeral prayers for the deceased actor will be conducted at Imam Bargah Yasrab Defense Stage 8 following Zuhr on Monday, February 13, 2023.
