Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai, Imam of Qasim Ali Khan mosque of Peshawar has declared that 1st day of the holy month of Ramazan would fall on Sunday (June 29).

Popalzai made the announcement after a meeting held at Masjid Qasim Ali Khan which was attended by local ulema and important figures of the area.

Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai said five witnesses sighted the new moon and they were examined properly by the committee of the ulema. However, the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will hold its meeting for the purpose today (Sunday) to announce sighting of the moon or otherwise.

It should be noted that all  the regional and Federal Reut-e-Hilal committees  had announced that the Moon had not been sighted.

Popalzai has a history of announcing Moon sightings beforehand.
