Elon Musk’s social platform X (formerly Twitter) has released its official overview of the most discussed topics in 2025. The annual trends report details what captured global attention, highlighting a clear dominance of cultural conversations over political discourse.

According to the platform’s data, music, television, and sports generated significantly more engagement than news and politics. Specifically, these categories drove the daily conversations and long-term interactions that define the site’s activity.

This metrics-based report underscores X’s evolving role. It now acts as a major barometer for global popular culture and shared entertainment experiences.

The 2025 F1 season set the pace on the X timeline, generating massive numbers globally:

The music category emerged as a primary driver of engagement. South Korean pop group Stray Kids ranked as the most talked-about music act of 2025, amassing tens of millions of mentions.

Global superstars like Justin Bieber and Cardi B followed them. These artists trended prominently during album releases and public appearances. This pattern demonstrates how dedicated fan communities use X as a central hub for coordination and celebration.

Television and streaming content also commanded overwhelming attention. Hit series like Stranger Things and Squid Game ranked among the most discussed shows. Millions of posts were linked to their episode launches and key cultural moments, creating vast, synchronised viewing parties.

Rather than a handful of big genres dominating the music scene in the year ahead, multiple subgenres will continue to flourish. Read why in The World Ahead https://t.co/6GB0UjnGMM

Similarly, sports conversations remained a consistent powerhouse. Football dominated global discussions, with the English Premier League the most discussed sports league. Match results and fan reactions fueled constant hype. Additionally, basketball leagues such as the NBA contributed significantly to overall conversation volume.

The overall posture of the 2025 trends indicates a clear user preference. While news and politics remain present on the platform, entertainment, culture, and sports are the primary engines of sustained engagement. This reflects X’s current identity as a central space for global pop culture dialogue.
