A Wylie Pride display at Wylie Flower and Gift in Texas drew both criticism and support after the shop owner decorated her storefront for Pride Month.
Owner Destinie Lacy said she created the window display to mark the start of Pride Month on June 1. She said the display aimed to make the shop feel welcoming.
“This is a place of joy,” Lacy said. She added that the message encouraged people to “bloom with pride.”
The display appeared in downtown Wylie as patriotic decorations were added ahead of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations.
Lacy said she and her staff encountered four or five young men on Monday who objected to the display. She said they used profanity while standing outside the window. Business owners said small acts of support can make a difference.
