WAJIMA: World’s 1st Pokemon airport branding was launched Tuesday at Noto Airport in Japan’s Ishikawa Prefecture, which was renamed “Noto Satoyama Pokemon with You Airport,” becoming the first airport in the world to include Pokémon in its name.

The airport received the nickname “Noto Satoyama Pokemon with You Airport” during a ceremony in Wajima.

The Ishikawa prefectural government said the nickname will remain in use until the end of September 2029.

A large Pikachu riding an aeroplane-shaped balloon was installed in the departure lobby. Airport shops and restaurants are offering limited-edition merchandise and themed meals.

Noto Airport has adopted the nickname of Noto Satoyama Pokémon with You Airport, part of an effort to bring in more visitors following renovations due to damage from the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake. https://t.co/ppSpkM5QLU pic.twitter.com/iakPmCfCDP

The project was developed by the Ishikawa prefectural government with the Tokyo-based Pokémon with You Foundation.

The initiative aims to support tourism recovery in the Noto Peninsula after the 2024 earthquake.

Pokemon-themed photo spots, manhole covers and local transport links are also being planned across the region.
