In preparation for Ramazan 2024, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has issued a directive prohibiting pilots and cabin crew members from observing the fast during operational hours. The decision aligns with flight safety protocols and is grounded in the recommendations of the Corporate Safety Management team.

The prohibition on fasting for flight crew during Ramazan stems from concerns over medical implications and the overarching priority of passenger and crew safety. Specifically, the PIA administration highlighted potential issues such as fatigue and decreased performance ability, which could compromise the safety of passengers and crew alike.

The detailed guidelines communicated by PIA emphasized that crew members, especially pilots, are to abstain from fasting while on duty throughout the month of Ramazan. This measure is seen as necessary to maintain optimal alertness and performance levels, ensuring the well-being of all onboard.

PIA’s administration has clarified that adherence to this policy is mandatory. Pilots and crew members who are fasting will not be scheduled for flight duties, underscoring the airline’s commitment to safety during the holy month.
