West Indies beat England T20 World Cup encounter by 30 runs in a high-scoring contest at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on Wednesday.

The Caribbean side delivered a commanding performance with both bat and ball. As a result, they secured their second victory of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, West Indies posted an imposing 196-6 in 20 overs. The total was built around a brilliant unbeaten knock from Sherfane Rutherford.

Rutherford smashed 76 off 42 balls. He struck two fours and seven sixes, anchoring the innings with confidence and control.

Roston Chase supported him with a steady 34 from 29 deliveries. Meanwhile, Shimron Hetmyer added a quick 23 off 12 balls to maintain the momentum.

Jason Holder then provided a late surge. He hammered 31 from just 17 balls, including one four and six sixes, pushing the total close to the 200 mark.

For England, Jamie Overton and Adil Rashid picked up two wickets each. Jofra Archer and Sam Curran claimed one apiece but struggled to contain the scoring rate.

Chasing 197, England needed a strong start. Phil Salt delivered early fireworks with 30 off 14 balls. However, Romario Shepherd removed him at a crucial moment.

Jacob Bethell attempted to rebuild the innings with a composed 33 from 23 deliveries. Still, Gudakesh Motie dismissed him to shift the momentum back to the West Indies.

Captain Jos Buttler scored 21 from 14 balls but failed to convert his start. At the other end, Sam Curran fought hard and remained unbeaten on 43 off 30 balls. Unfortunately for England, wickets kept falling, and partnerships did not develop. England were eventually bowled out for 166 in 19 overs.

Gudakesh Motie led the bowling attack with figures of 3-33 in four overs. He applied pressure during the middle overs and removed key batters.

Roston Chase chipped in with two wickets. Akeal Hosein, Romario Shepherd, and Shamar Joseph each claimed one scalp to complete a comprehensive team effort.

The victory strengthens the West Indies’ position in the tournament. Moreover, it highlights their depth in both the batting and bowling departments.

With this 30-run win, West Indies continue to build momentum in the T20 World Cup 2026. England, on the other hand, will need to regroup quickly to stay competitive in the tournament.
