Former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram has issued a public apology after facing intense criticism over a New Year message in which he urged Pakistanis to curb overeating.
The controversy erupted after a video circulated on X in which Akram advised people to adopt healthier eating habits, using the phrase “stop eating like animals.” Many social media users took offence at the wording, accusing the legendary fast bowler of insulting the public.

Akram also noted that people often focus on isolated phrases rather than the broader message. He explained that his original intent was to warn about the serious health risks linked to overeating and unhealthy lifestyles, particularly as Pakistan faces rising rates of obesity and related diseases.
While offering an apology, the former captain stood by the substance of his message. He said difficult truths can sound harsh but remain important, adding that his advice aimed to encourage better health choices. He concluded by praying for guidance for everyone.
