The meeting, part of Wang Yi’s broader engagements in Pakistan, follows the Sixth Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue in Kabul, where China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan committed to counter-terrorism and trade cooperation, including extending the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The discussions come amid Pakistan’s efforts to stabilise its economy, supported by a $7 billion IMF bailout and a planned $1 billion Panda Bonds issuance in China.
Wang Yi’s meeting with Munir underscores the strategic importance of military and diplomatic ties in the China-Pakistan relationship, particularly in addressing regional threats. The reaffirmed partnership aligns with ongoing CPEC projects and Pakistan’s push for economic resilience, as evidenced by recent GDP growth projections to Rs163 trillion by 2028
As Pakistan and China deepen their collaboration, the focus on counter-terrorism and regional stability will likely shape future engagements. The meeting sets the stage for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s upcoming visit to China, where further economic and security agreements are expected.
