Pakistan spinner Usman Tariq Warwickshire signing was confirmed on Tuesday, with the Bears bringing him in for the Vitality T20 Blast starting May 22.
Warwickshire Bears said the 30-year-old had offers from franchise leagues around the world but chose the county side for his maiden Vitality Blast stint.
Tariq will spend much of England’s summer at Edgbaston Stadium before joining Birmingham Phoenix for The Hundred.
Birmingham Phoenix signed him for £140,000 at The Hundred players’ draft in March. Tariq said he was excited to bring “fun and energy” to the Bears squad and was looking forward to playing at Edgbaston.
Warwickshire Performance Director James Thomas called Tariq the type of “high-impact player” the club wanted for modern white-ball cricket.
Thomas said Tariq’s tactical awareness and hunger to improve made him a strong fit for the team.
He said the move also aligned Warwickshire Bears with Birmingham Phoenix by giving Tariq continuity across the Vitality Blast and The Hundred.
Thomas said the signing would strengthen the club, the franchise and their connection with supporters in Birmingham and Warwickshire.
