Authorities placed the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, on lockdown in response to reported threats, according to a Naval Support Activity Annapolis statement on Facebook.

Fox News reported that an expelled former midshipman returned to campus with a weapon, and gunshots were heard in Bancroft Hall, the midshipmen’s dormitory. Officers responded with heightened caution to protect everyone on campus.

The Naval Academy initiated a lockdown “out of an abundance of caution,” according to a statement on Facebook. Navy personnel and local law enforcement are investigating the threats. Fox News reported hearing gunshots inside Bancroft Hall, linking the incident to a former midshipman. Official channels have not confirmed any injuries.
