Konarak Governor Mohammad Younes Haqqani told IRNA that enemy fighter jets targeted a naval military zone in the southern Iranian city in two stages.
He said rescue, security and relevant agencies reached the site. Mehr News Agency also reported blasts in southern Iran, including Bushehr, Choghadak and Bandar Abbas.
Bushehr’s governor said officials were still checking whether air defences, an enemy projectile or a targeted drone caused the explosions. US Central Command told Al Jazeera that US forces had not struck Iran in the past few hours.
The statement followed earlier reports that US strikes had hit Iranian military and coastal infrastructure during the wider escalation.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump spoke by phone, according to Netanyahu’s office. The office said Trump updated Netanyahu on American moves in the Gulf.
Netanyahu also raised what his office called the severity of statements by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan against Israel. He stressed the need to maintain security zones along Israel’s borders.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed the latest regional security situation with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Salman, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said.
