PORT HURON: US President Donald Trump urged Michigan voters to treat the November midterms as if he were on the ballot while defending the Iran war and higher petrol prices.
Trump spoke for about two hours at McMorran Place in Port Huron on Sunday, nine days before the election. He told a crowd of about 5,000 people that he had “no second-guessing” about ordering military strikes against Iran.
Trump described higher fuel costs as “a small price to pay” for preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. AAA Michigan data put the statewide average for unleaded petrol at $4.83 a gallon on October 25.
That was 33 cents higher than a week earlier and 57% above the $3.08 level a year earlier. Former US President Barack Obama had criticised Trump’s Iran policy at a Detroit rally a day earlier, blaming the conflict for higher fuel prices.
Trump used much of the Port Huron event to promote Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers and Republican gubernatorial nominee John James. He urged supporters to “pretend that I’m on the ballot” when they vote.

Trump also attacked Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed and gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson, repeating claims about terrorism and election fraud that the source describes as unsupported.
