President Donald Trump intensified his rhetoric against Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, claiming the US knows his location but will spare him “for now.” Posting on Truth Social, Trump demanded Iran’s “unconditional surrender” amid escalating Israel-Iran hostilities. As the US deploys fighter jets to the Middle East, concerns grow over potential American involvement.

From the White House Situation Room, Trump posted on Truth Social, stating the US has pinpointed Khamenei’s location but will not target him currently. He warned Iran against attacks on civilians or US soldiers, adding, “Our patience is wearing thin.” Minutes later, he demanded “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!” These posts followed Trump’s early return from the G7 summit in Canada, prompted by the intensifying Iran-Israel conflict. On Air Force One, he rejected a ceasefire, insisting on a “real end” to hostilities and expressing reluctance to negotiate.

Three US officials say the US is bolstering its Middle East presence, deploying F-16, F-22, and F-35 fighter jets and extending existing warplane deployments. A fourth official noted potential additions of Navy warships to the Eastern Mediterranean for ballistic missile defence. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth described these moves as defensive, aimed at protecting US forces from Iran or its allies. Reuters reported that the Pentagon’s actions, including tanker aircraft movements to Europe and an aircraft carrier deployment, signal escalation readiness.

Israel-Iran Conflict Context

Israel launched large-scale airstrikes on Iran starting June 13, 2025, targeting alleged nuclear facilities, claiming Iran was nearing nuclear weapon capability. Iran denies these accusations, asserting its nuclear program is peaceful under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Trump praised the role of US-made weaponry in controlling Iran’s skies, echoing Israel’s claims, though he stopped short of confirming US involvement. The US maintains a significant regional presence, with 40,000 troops, air defence systems, and warships.

French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking at the G7 summit, warned that regime change in Iran would lead to “chaos,” urging de-escalation. A US congresswoman, posting on X, cautioned Trump against involving the US in Israel’s conflict, emphasising no attacks on Americans have occurred and urging peace. Her statement reflects domestic concerns about being drawn into a costly war, resonating with Trump’s voter base seeking non-intervention.

Trump’s rhetoric and military deployments raise questions about US intentions. While he has stressed non-involvement, his signals suggest potential intervention, possibly supporting Israel’s campaign. His earlier proposal for a nuclear deal with Iran appears sidelined amid heightened tensions. The combination of aggressive rhetoric, military buildup, and rejection of ceasefire talks increases the risk of broader conflict, challenging Trump’s pledge to avoid foreign wars.
