President Donald Trump stated that any Jewish person who votes for New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is a “stupid person.” The comment is the latest in a series of remarks he has made about the voting patterns of Jewish Americans.
Trump made the statement in a post on his Truth Social platform on Tuesday. “Any Jewish person that votes for Zohran Mamdani, a proven and self professed JEW HATER, is a stupid person!!!!” Trump wrote.
His post also included a threat to withhold federal funds from New York City if Mamdani wins the election. Trump previously urged voters to support former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is trailing in the polls.
Zohran Mamdani, who identifies as Muslim, has been a critic of the current Israeli government. He has consistently and vehemently rejected accusations of anti-Semitism from his political opponents.
Mamdani’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Trump’s latest statement. Trump and the Republican party have historically polled poorly with Jewish American voters. This dynamic has been a known point of frustration for the former president.

A September 2024 Pew Research Center survey showed Trump trailing Democrat Kamala Harris among Jewish voters by a significant margin. Last year, ahead of the election, Trump told an Israeli-American summit that Israel’s existence depended on his victory, directly linking the country’s future to Jewish American votes.
The New York City mayoral election is being closely watched as a key political barometer. While Mamdani’s potential victory is significant, other state elections in Virginia and New Jersey are also seen as critical indicators of the national political mood
