US President Donald Trump reported a “lengthy and highly productive” discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, highlighting a mutual commitment to begin negotiations to resolve the Ukraine conflict.

On Truth Social, Trump shared that both leaders are considering visits to each other’s nations and mentioned his immediate plans to brief Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the developments.

The Kremlin described this conversation as lasting ninety minutes. It signals a significant warming of ties between Washington and Moscow, with both sides expressing readiness to collaborate closely. According to Kremlin sources, Putin sees potential for a “long-term settlement” in Ukraine, triggered by Russia’s 2022 invasion, and extended an invitation to Trump to visit Moscow.

The call follows a recent prisoner exchange involving the release of US teacher Marc Fogel and Russian cryptocurrency expert Alexander Vinnik. Trump lauded Putin’s use of his campaign slogan “COMMON SENSE” in his social media update, emphasizing their unified desire to halt the extensive casualties reportedly occurring due to the ongoing conflict—a figure Trump noted, though not officially confirmed.

Highlighting the situation’s urgency, Trump stated that their teams would begin immediate negotiations, starting with a call to President Zelensky to update him on the conversation. To spearhead these efforts, Trump has designated US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, National Security Adviser Michael Waltz, and his Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, expressing confidence in the successful outcome of these negotiations.
