Netflix premieres its film adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club, Richard Osman’s bestselling debut novel. Directed by Chris Columbus, known for Home Alone and the first two Harry Potter films, this two-hour feature blends humour and suspense. With a stellar cast including Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie, the movie promises to captivate audiences.

The story follows four retirees in a British retirement home who form a club to solve cold cases. Elizabeth (Mirren), Ron (Brosnan), Ibrahim (Kingsley), and newcomer Joyce (Imrie) turn their hobby into a real investigation when a local mystery emerges. Tensions rise as businessman Ian Ventham (David Tennant) plans to convert their residence into luxury apartments, threatening their community.

The film challenges stereotypes about ageing. For instance, it portrays retirement as a time for adventure and connection, not passivity.
