NATO’s Iran war comments were condemned by Tehran on Thursday after alliance chief Mark Rutte said allies supported the US military operation Epic Fury against Iran.
Rutte told Fox News that NATO allies had made bases available to the US for the operation. He said 500 US planes took off from US bases in Italy to support Epic Fury.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei called the remarks an admission of NATO’s “active complicity” in what he described as an unlawful war.
Baghaei wrote on X that the comments violated international law and the United Nations Charter. US President Donald Trump had criticised NATO allies for not backing his war against Iran.

Rutte also said Romania reduced commercial flights because airports were needed for tanker facilities during the conflict.
Italy’s Defence Ministry distanced itself from Rutte’s remarks. It said Italy had allowed only technical and logistical US flights during Epic Fury under existing agreements with Washington.
