Philanthropist and Chairman Habib Bank (HBL) Sultan Ali Allana was honoured with the prestigious Nishan-e-Khidmat, one of Pakistan’s highest civilian awards, during a special investiture ceremony on Pakistan Day.

The award, approved by President Asif Ali Zardari on August 14, 2024, recognizes Allana’s exceptional contributions to public service and his transformative impact on Pakistan’s financial and social sectors.

With a career spanning over 40 years, Sultan Ali Allana has been a trailblazer in the banking industry. He founded the First Microfinance Bank in 2002, pioneering financial inclusion and empowering underserved communities. His visionary leadership was pivotal in repositioning Pakistan’s financial system to meet international standards, contributing significantly to the country’s removal from the FATF grey list.

Allana also launched Pakistan’s first agricultural initiative under a commercial bank, providing sustainable frameworks to support small farmers and strengthen rural economies. His efforts have transformed the banking sector and fostered trade and commerce across South Asia. He has secured vital international investments for Pakistan through engagements with global financial institutions like the IMF, BII, IFC, and Chinese financial entities.

Beyond banking, Allana’s philanthropic endeavours have left a lasting impact. He established the HBL Foundation, which has expanded access to education and healthcare for marginalized communities. His work reflects a deep commitment to national development and welfare.

Sultan Ali Allana’s recognition with the Nishan-e-Khidmat celebrates his visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to Pakistan’s prosperity. His legacy continues to inspire progress and innovation across the nation.
