SULAIMANIYAH, Iraq: A Sulaimaniyah drone attack targeted the Peshmerga’s 70th Brigade headquarters early on August 2, but forces intercepted both aircraft before they reached the compound.
Debris from one intercepted drone caught fire after falling near the headquarters in the Tasluja area, a security source told Shafaq News.
Authorities had not confirmed any casualties or determined the extent of the damage when the outlet published its report.
Hours earlier, two other drones struck an area near Jasana Cave. The site lies outside Gechina village in Sulaimaniyah province’s Dukan district.
That separate attack ignited a vegetation fire. Firefighters and local authorities worked to contain the blaze and assess the affected area.

Azad Salawati, security chief of the Komala of Toilers of Kurdistan, told Rudaw that the drones hit a mountain near the group’s positions.
Salawati said the earlier attack caused a small fire but no casualties or significant damage. No group had claimed responsibility for either incident. Shafaq News also did not identify an attacker.
Therefore, separate media claims attributing the brigade attack to Iran-backed Iraqi factions remained unconfirmed.
