A powerful hailstorm and heavy rainfall struck the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa districts of Upper Dir and Swat. The severe weather caused a sharp temperature drop, leading to significant disruption across the region.
In Upper Dir, the intense downpour created darkness during the day. It also triggered flash floods in local streams. The flooding blocked traffic on the vital GT Road. The rain also caused soil erosion along roads in upper areas, confining residents to their homes.
The storm damaged standing crops and fruit orchards. Vehicles also suffered damage from the hail. Furthermore, the district’s electricity system failed, resulting in a widespread power outage.

In Swat, the heavy rain and hail intensified the cold weather. In Mingora city, water levels in drains and streams rose rapidly.
Blocked drains spilt onto roads, highlighting poor performance by the Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSC). Residents faced difficulties as rainwater flooded the streets.
A separate incident in Chakdara resulted in a lightning strike damaging a 132,000-volt transmission line. This caused power disruptions in various parts of the region. Officials from WAPDA Swat confirmed that efforts are underway to restore electricity. However, they have not provided a specific timeline for full restoration.
