Details regarding the salary and benefits package of the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan were disclosed in a recent session of the National Assembly.
The current Governor, Jameel Ahmed, receives a substantial monthly salary of 4 million rupees and several additional benefits. This represents a significant increase from the salary of his predecessor, Reza Baqir, who earned 2.5 million rupees per month.
This information was revealed in a written response by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb to a query raised by PML-N MNA Tahira Aurangzeb. It was noted that Governor Jameel Ahmed’s remuneration exceeds that of former Governor Reza Baqir by 1.5 million rupees. Jameel Ahmed assumed his role as Governor on August 26, 2022.
The governor’s compensation package includes a house rent allowance, with the bank also covering maintenance and furnishing costs. Additionally, the governor is provided with two vehicles, each accompanied by a driver, and 600 liters of petrol are allocated monthly. The vehicles include one 1600CC and one 1800CC model.
Governor Ahmed is also entitled to employ four staff members, each receiving a monthly salary of 18,000 rupees. He receives 1,200 litres of fuel, and the State Bank bears all expenses related to electricity, gas, water, entertainment, and mobile phone usage. Moreover, the bank funds 75% of the educational expenses for the Governor’s children.
The comprehensive benefits package includes medical coverage, air tickets, club memberships, and security provisions, highlighting the extensive support and resources available to the governor’s office.
