As the holiday season approaches, the film industry is lining up major releases aimed at audiences heading into early 2026. Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson lead the highly anticipated musical drama Song Sung Blue, inspired by real events.

The film draws comparisons to A Star Is Born, blending romance, music, and personal struggle into a story of second chances and enduring love.

Song Sung Blue is scheduled for a theatrical release on January 1, 2026. The film, directed and written by Craig Brewer, is based on the 2008 documentary of the same name.

The story follows Mike and Claire Sardina, a married couple and struggling musicians from Milwaukee. Together, they form a Neil Diamond tribute band called Lightning & Thunder. As they perform in bars and small venues, their musical journey mirrors their personal one, filled with setbacks, renewed hope and emotional resilience. Music remains the constant force that binds them as they seek redemption, stability, and love.

Jackman plays Mike Sardina, while Hudson portrays Claire Sardina. The supporting cast includes Michael Imperioli, Jim Belushi, Fisher Stevens, Mustafa Shakir, Ella Anderson, and musician King Princess.

Much like A Star Is Born, the film centres on how music shapes identity, relationships and survival. With its real-life roots and star-studded cast, Song Sung Blue is positioning itself as one of the most emotionally driven musical releases of the coming year.
