Prices of solar panels have increased once again in the city’s market, adding fresh pressure on consumers planning to shift to renewable energy.
Market sources said the per-watt price of solar panels has risen by PKR 10, pushing rates from PKR 30 to PKR 40 per watt. The increase has significantly raised the overall cost of installing solar systems.
According to traders, the price hike has added nearly PKR 200,000 to the cost of a complete on-grid solar setup, depending on system size and configuration.
Under the updated price list, on-grid solar system rates now stand at:
- 5 kW system: PKR 650,000
- 7 kW system: PKR 750,000
- 10 kW system: PKR 1,100,000
- 12 kW system: PKR 1,250,000
- 15 kW system: PKR 1,500,000
Sources clarified that these prices apply strictly to on-grid systems. Consumers opting for hybrid systems will need to pay extra for battery storage, which can further raise costs.
Traders acknowledged that the latest increase has complicated the transition to solar energy for many households and small businesses. However, they noted that demand remains stable.
Market participants attribute this resilience to the continued rise in grid electricity tariffs, which has kept solar energy financially attractive despite higher upfront costs.
