The Sindh government launched Pakistan’s first electric bus service in Karachi.
Sindh’s Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced on Twitter and said “People of Karachi will avail Pakistan’s first electric bus service from today. This service will start from Tank chowk Malir Cantt to the clock tower roundabout, sea view defence using Khayaban-e-Ittihad. Airport passengers can also avail of this bus service.”
Sharjeel Inam Memon, minister of transportation and information, inaugurated the Peoples Electric Bus Service alongside Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Sindh Labour Minister Saeed Ghani at the Clock Tower in Seaview.
At the ceremony’s inauguration, the provincial ministers rode the bus and inspected its amenities.
Additionally, he informed the media that the environmentally friendly bus service would begin operations today. These buses run solely on rechargeable batteries, are of European quality and will not emit any pollutants; in addition to decreasing pollution, they will provide citizens with low-cost transport options.
Memon explained that the bus would route Tank Chowk, Malir Cantt, to the Clock Tower roundabout, Seaview, via the Khayaban-e-Ittehad road.
In addition, the minister announced that people headed to the airport might utilize this bus. According to Memon, a private cab ride to the airport costs roughly Rs1,500. However, “the EV bus service to the airport costs approximately Rs 50.”
During the press conference, Memon praised the Civil Aviation Authority for allowing airport access to the bus service.
He stated that the care of the electric bus service was the responsibility of the city’s residents. “The bus service belongs to these people, and we must work together to address the city’s traffic, environmental pollution, and other problems.”
Memon further praised the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and remarked that the Sindh government was giving Karachi and its development projects extra attention because Karachi is Pakistan’s economic capital.
