Despite the intense rivalry between India and Pakistan in cricket, the mutual respect shared by cricketers from both nations often shines through. Beyond their competitive nature, players frequently express admiration for their counterparts. Virat Kohli once remarked on the daunting prospect of facing Shoaib Akhtar in his prime. At the same time, Akhtar has consistently lauded Indian legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag for their bold batting.
At a public event, Shoaib Akhtar recently engaged in a lively exchange with Dolly Chaiwala, a tea seller from Nagpur whose real name is Sunil Patil. The interaction highlighted the lighter side of cricketing confrontations.
During their conversation, Akhtar inquired if Dolly had watched his games, to which Dolly responded affirmatively, praising Akhtar’s fast bowling by saying, “You are such a fast bowler, it seemed you are not bowling, but you are throwing the ball at somebody.” Akhtar also asked about Dolly’s feelings when he dismissed Sachin Tendulkar, eliciting a candid response: “What can I do? It’s Sachin.”
Looking ahead to future India-Pakistan matches, Akhtar expressed optimism about Kohli’s return to form, recalling his memorable performance at Melbourne’s 2022 T20 World Cup. “If you want to wake Virat Kohli up, tell him there is a match against Pakistan. He will wake up,” Akhtar commented during an interview with Aaj Tak. He anticipates Kohli will excel in upcoming contests, reflecting on Kohli’s ability to rise to the occasion.
Akhtar envisions an evenly matched contest between the two cricketing powerhouses. He desires both teams to perform well, though his heart leans towards a Pakistani victory. “Imagine Virat Kohli scoring runs for India, Babar Azam scoring for Pakistan, Shaheen and Naseem bowling well for Pakistan, and Jasprit Bumrah firing for India,” Akhtar said, setting the stage for what he hopes will be a thrilling encounter between the archrivals.
