An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi has ordered the defreezing of bank accounts for two major institutions. The court issued this directive for the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust (SKMT) and Namal University.
ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah issued the order during a Monday hearing. The case involves PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan. During the proceedings, Prosecutor Zaheer Shah explained the situation to the court. He confirmed that authorities intended to freeze Aleema Khan’s personal bank accounts.
Officials sent her Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) number to the State Bank of Pakistan with this request. However, the banking action affected all accounts registered under that specific CNIC number.
We remain deeply grateful to our donors, and indeed to all citizens of Pakistan, for their unwavering trust – now more than ever – in our mission to provide free cancer care to more than 75% of our patients, all across Pakistan. 3/3

This procedural error resulted in the freezing of accounts belonging to SKMT and Namal University, as well as Aleema Khan’s personal accounts. After hearing arguments from both legal sides, the court issued its definitive order. It directed authorities to unfreeze the four SKMT accounts and all associated accounts of Namal University.
This legal development follows SKMT’s recent public statement. The trust had reassured its supporters that the “vast majority” of its bank accounts remained fully operational despite reports of disruptions.

In a statement on the social media platform X, SKMT clarified that only a small number of accounts had been temporarily restricted. It emphasised that all patient care and treatment services continued uninterrupted.
The trust also expressed gratitude for the public’s “unwavering trust.” SKMT provides free cancer care to more than 75% of its patients nationwide. Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust is a registered charitable organisation founded by Imran Khan. It operates major cancer hospitals in Lahore and Peshawar, with a third facility under construction in Karachi.
