KARACHI: Seema Ghazal’s polygamy remarks drew attention after the veteran Pakistani drama writer said many men fail to fulfil wives’ rights in multiple marriages.
Ghazal made the comments in an interview clip shared on Instagram by DIVA Magazine Pakistan.
The writer of “Noor Bano” referred to television host Iqrar Ul Hassan while discussing men who publicly celebrate having multiple wives. Ghazal said men who marry more than once often compromise the rights of their first wives.
She questioned whether such relationships begin openly or develop without the existing spouse’s knowledge before being formalised through marriage.
The interviewer cited Iqrar Ul Hassan’s previous position, stating that his first wife knew about his relationship and his intention to marry again.
The interviewer also asked why society treats multiple marriages as controversial when Islamic teachings permit up to four wives under certain conditions.

Ghazal rejected the framing and said the question was whether a husband could fulfil the rights of every wife.
She said a husband’s responsibilities go beyond financial support and include emotional care, respect and equal treatment.
