Slow progress into lawyers’ target killing cases: SC rejects police report

 The Supreme Court earlier today rejected a police report over the slow progress made into cases of the target killing of lawyers in Karachi.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali heard the case over suo moto of lawyers’ target killing at the SC Karachi Registry.

Additional Inspector General Police (AIGP) Karachi Mushtaq Mehr presented the report of cases in which progress was not made.

The court rejected the report and expressed severe displeasure over it. The CJ remarked that the court had sought details of all the A-Class cases and not only related to lawyers killing.

Justice Ameer Hani Muslim, in his remarks, said there were hundreds of cases which had been declared A-Class, adding 3 to 4 days after registration of FIR, cases are put in A-Class category.

The court ordered to present detailed report of all the A-Class cases since 2000 in Karachi and adjourned the hearing for indefinite period.
