SANAA, Yemen: A Saudi F-15 downed over Yemen was claimed Wednesday by the Houthis, who said they used a domestically produced missile against the fighter over Marib province.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the aircraft was operating in support of Saudi-aligned forces when it was hit. The group also released footage it said showed wreckage from the jet.
The Houthis said the aircraft was brought down with a locally manufactured missile; Saudi Arabia had not immediately confirmed the claim, and Reuters reported that the exact location and date of the footage could not be independently verified. Saudi Arabia and the Saudi-led coalition have not publicly confirmed losing an F-15, and spokespeople have not issued any statement yet.

Saree also claimed Houthi air-defence units confronted other Saudi F-15 and Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft over Marib and forced them to withdraw while searching for the wreckage.
He further alleged that Saudi aircraft had carried out more than 450 strikes across several Yemeni provinces, causing deaths and injuries.

The incident came amid a wider escalation between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis. Saudi authorities said they had intercepted a drone near Makkah the previous day, while the Houthis denied responsibility for that launch.

The Saudi-led coalition also said 13 civilians were injured in earlier missile and drone attacks on Khamis Mushait, Abha and Taif.
