Samsung is preparing to launch its most ambitious foldable phone yet, the Galaxy Z TriFold. The device, featuring three folding panels, is expected to make its official debut on December 5.

After years of patents and speculation, this move into commercial triple-fold technology marks a significant leap for the smartphone industry. The reported starting price of approximately $3,000 reflects the advanced complexity of its design.

Recent reports confirm that unlocked firmware testing for the US model (SM-F968U1) has now begun. This critical phase indicates that final preparations for a North American release are fully underway.

The timing of this testing is notable. Starting the process this late in the development cycle could suggest a tightly controlled software rollout or a compressed schedule. Samsung plans to offer the Galaxy Z TriFold in both locked and unlocked variants for the US market.

Samsung’s initial launch strategy for the Galaxy Z TriFold appears focused. The first rollout will likely be limited to a select number of regions.

The United States may be the only Western market included in the first wave. Outside of its home market, South Korea, the company may also introduce the handset in key markets like China, Singapore, Taiwan, and the UAE.

Galaxy Z TriFold Design and Key Specifications

The Galaxy Z TriFold is engineered to offer a versatile user experience, transforming between a compact phone and a large tablet.

  • Display: The device features a unique structure that folds in two places. When fully opened, it reveals a large 10-inch tablet-like screen. When closed, it operates using a 6.5-inch outer cover display.
  • Performance: The dual-hinge mechanism is demanding, necessitating a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon processor to ensure smooth performance. Samsung is reportedly aiming to deliver a “portable PC” experience.
  • Dimensions and Battery: Recent leaks suggest the device will be backed by a substantial 5,437mAh battery. The panels are expected to be incredibly slim, with one at 3.9mm and the others at 4mm and 4.2mm. This would make it slimmer than the current Galaxy Z Fold 7 when open.
  • Camera: The handset may sport a high-resolution 200-megapixel primary camera.
  • Display Brightness: The screens could reach a peak brightness of up to 2,600 nits, ensuring excellent visibility outdoors.

This combination of specifications positions the Galaxy Z TriFold as a potential new category of mobile device, blending the portability of a phone with the screen real estate of a tablet.
