The fight brings together two former leading names in women’s MMA. Ronda Rousey has not fought since her 2016 loss to Amanda Nunes, while Gina Carano has stayed away from MMA for 17 years.
Carano said she dropped 100 pounds to prepare for the bout after health and mobility issues in recent years.
UFC analysts backed Rousey as the heavy favourite because of Carano’s long absence. However, they did not rule out an upset.
The matchup has also drawn a strong reaction online. A viral Reddit betting thread noted Carano’s 17-year break, while some users backed Rousey to win by submission.
The listed fight card also includes Francis Ngannou vs Philipe Lins and Nate Diaz vs Mike Perry. The event marks a major comeback test for both Rousey and Carano after years away from the cage.
