On August 15, 2025, the Rawalpindi Metro Bus service between Saddar Station and Faizabad was suspended due to Chehlum processions commemorating the martyrs of Karbala, as announced by the administration. However, the Islamabad section, running from IJP to the Pak Secretariat, will continue to operate normally.
The partial suspension, ordered by the district administration, is a precautionary measure to address security concerns during the religious observances.
Authorities have implemented strict security measures to ensure safety during the Chehlum processions. This includes placing containers along the procession routes in the twin cities. Commuters travelling on the Rawalpindi route are advised to use alternative transportation options. Additional police and Rangers have been deployed, especially in Karachi’s Numaish and Kharadar areas, to facilitate the smooth flow of the processions.

The Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) is being observed with solemnity across Pakistan, honouring the sacrifices of the Karbala martyrs. In Karachi, the main procession will start at Nishtar Park and conclude at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar, following its traditional route. Mourning events are also occurring in various cities, reflecting deep religious reverence.
The suspension aligns with heightened security during religious events, coinciding with monsoon alerts for potential flooding in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The measures underscore the balance between public safety and religious observances, ensuring minimal disruption while honouring cultural traditions. The deployment of security forces highlights the event’s significance.
