The hip-hop community is mourning the loss of rapper MoneySign Suede, who tragically died after being stabbed in a shower at a California prison.
The jail authorities and MoneySign Suede’s legal representative have confirmed this unfortunate incident.
Jaime Brugada Valdez, aged 22 and better known as MoneySign Suede, was discovered with critical injuries in the shower area of the Correctional Training Facility located in Soledad, California. The incident took place shortly before 10 p.m. on a Tuesday. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation provided this information in an official statement.
In the aftermath of the incident, medical personnel at the prison attempted to save Valdez’s life. Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain, and he was pronounced dead at the prison’s medical facility. Although the department did not disclose specific details about the nature of Valdez’s injuries, they have confirmed that they are treating his death as a homicide case.
Valdez’s attorney, Nicholas Rosenberg, spoke with the Los Angeles Times about the incident. He shared that MoneySign Suede had sustained a stab wound to his neck, ultimately leading to his demise.
MoneySign Suede’s music career included signing with Atlantic Records in 2021. He released his latest album, “Parkside Baby,” in September of that year, as reported by the Times. The album showcased the rapper’s talent and helped to solidify his growing reputation in the music industry.
The Correctional Training Facility, where the incident occurred is in Monterey County. The facility has over 4,000 inmates with varying security classifications, ranging from minimum to medium-security levels.
State corrections officials revealed that Valdez had been transferred to this facility after being sentenced in Riverside County the previous December. He was given a two-year and eight-month sentence on two separate counts of being a convicted felon possessing a firearm. The tragic event has left fans and fellow musicians in shock as they grapple with the untimely loss of the talented rapper.
